The Heart of Parenting:

So often parenting books and seminars focus on skills and tools and techniques to make us better and more efficient parents. But its not very often that we stop and ask ourselves, What should be the character of my own heart as a parent. We will spend a few weeks together talking about the things that rule our hearts as parents, how they affect the way we communicate and act and how we can allow the gospel to transform the way we love and lead our children. an evening of sweet treats and great music!! We will be serving gourmet desserts (prepared by Steve Cumby), coffee and tea, all the while entertaining you and giving you a glimpse of future theatrical productions at Chapelgate. This fun-filled, family-friendly event will be held Saturday, August 29th at 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall.

Some of our own Fusion members and their families are involved in the production. Including Amy Reed and Steve Dallwig! So come and show your support.

Tickets are $10 and on sale now! Tickets can be purchased after each Sunday service and at the Church Office.

REMEMBER THIS SATURDAY FUSION IS GOING TO THE RODEO

The Battle of the Beast Saturday, August 15th at 5:30pm J Bar W Ranch, Libertytown, MD.

Put on your boots and cowboy hat round up your family and join us on Saturday, August 15th at the J Bar W Ranch for their summer rodeo called “The Battle of the Beast”. It will be a night of Pro Bull Riding, Barrel racing and from 5:30 - 6:30pm they have an interactive ‘Lil’ Wranglers Rodeo. Where the kids can get on a mechanical Bull, practice their lasso skills and even do some stick horse, barrel racing. Cost is $15 for adults (Note this is $5 more per adult then my original email and $5 (ages 6-12) and kids under 6 are free! It’s bleacher seating so bring a blanket for comfort and some extra cash for food or drinks.

Pack up the bathing suits, the fishing poles and some food and bring your family to the Missional Community end of the Summer Picnic. Hollowbrook Hollow Farms has a swimming pool, a lake for fishing with canoes and paddle boats that you and your family can use free of charge, a playground, picnic pavilion and much more. Bring a main course and drinks for your family and a side dish/salad or desert to share with everyone else. Bring any collapsible chairs you have for extra seating and any picnic/ backyard games you think would be fun to have with us. Hope to see you there!

Antoinne Bennett and Patty Prasada-Rao who are the co-Executive Directors at Newsong Urban Ministries will share with our class the vision Newsong has for the city of Baltimore and challenge us in the ways we think and act in terms of the city. FRENCH TOAST BREAKFAST- Sunday, June 7

On Sunday June 7th, the Middle School Ministry will be sponsoring a French toast breakfast to raise money to assist sending kids to the 'Victory Jam' camp this summer. As one of the founders of Victory Jam, I know first hand the impact this week has on the lives of students who attend. For many it is the first time they really wrestle with the gospel and the challenge of living their lives surrendered to Christ.

Fusion will just take place that Sunday at the breakfast in the Fellowship Hall. Bring your family and make a $$ donation to help kids get to camp.

Fusion can grab some tables together.....and just enjoy being with each other.

This will be a great time to meet and connect with other families that are a part of our Fusion community. Opportunity to Serve with Acts4Youth -June 11

Acts 4 Youth a ministry for at risk boys in Baltimore City is having their 1st annual banquet to celebrate their first year of operation. We are seeking people who could help prepare and serve drinks and food for the event. The banquet will be held on June 11th at Central Presbyterian Church from 6-8 PM. Fusion: Serve the City Day with Acts 4 Youth.
Had a great time with about 25-30 members of Fusion as we went into Guilford Elementary School and worked on some projects in classrooms, hallways and bathrooms. Many of us got to work alongside students from the Acts 4 Youth program. It was a great time! If you want to see pictures from our event click on the picture here...

We have had a great response to the Acts 4 Youth service project that we are participating in on Saturday, March 28th. It's exciting to know that we have reached capacity with the number of people who can serve at that site. If you are still interested in serving somewhere on the 28th you can email Patrick Donohue and inquire about availability at other sites.

Fusion will continue to do more projects with Acts 4 Youth in the future. So if you didn't get to go this time, you will be able to go with us again soon.

Chris Paulis is continuing his series "Walking in the Light in a Dark World". We are unpacking the ways in which we are being 'conformed to the patterns of this world' through media and discussion and then will be looking at what Scripture says about how 'to be transformed through the renewal of our minds.'

Fusion to participate in Chapelgate's Serve the City Day on March 28th!

Our Fusion community is privelaged to be able to participate in Chapelgate's "serve the city" project on Saturday March 28th. 'Serve the City' is Chapelgate's effort to blitz our city of Baltimore with acts of love and Mercy. As part of this project, Fusion has teamed up with Acts4Youth, one of the participating ministries in the project. Kevin Good, the director of Acts4Youth was at our Fusion class just 2 weeks ago talking about ways we can partner with their exciting ministry to at risk boys in the inner city. This is a great way to get to know a little bit more about their ministry, meet some of the boys they work with and get our hands a little dirty as we serve.

On this particular Saturday we will be serving the local elementary school these boys attend and the ministry is housed by doing some clean up, painting, landscaping and other work to help create a cleaner and more beautiful environment for the ministry to thrive.

This project is open for families to participate with children aged 8 and up. If you would like to signup, email Patrick Donohue the event coordinator at pdonohue@chapelgate.org with the names of who you will be bringing and be sure to mention that you want to sign up with Fusion to work with Acts4Youth. Congratulations to Jocie and Ethan Hagan on the birth of their first child, Isabella Faith Hagan, on February 11, 2009 -- Isabella is the 7th grand daughter to Mary Sue and Chris Paulis, (They like those girls!) and first grandchild to Steve and Alice Bowen. Both Jocie and baby Isabella are doing well.

Walking in the Light - New Fusion Class, February 22nd

our next topic at Fusion will begin on February 22 . This six week series is called "Walking in the Light in a Dark World," and the mini-course will be a highly interactive exploration of what I think is a biblical model for viewing and following a grace-based life, especially if you find that hard.

We'll explore culture, our lives, some key biblical principles anchored in verses all over the New Testament, and talk and pray about how this stuff rubs us. The hope will be mutual encouragement and building of our community through our reflection and conversation in small groups.

The concepts of the class will be built around a visual model described by its title and the reference to 1John.

Short term trip to Vienna with the McMullen's Set.

Communities with Real Conversation- This Winter at Fusion

Acts 4 Youth this Sunday at Fusion

This Sunday, Dec. 21, Kevin Good, director of Acts 4 Youth will be joining our class to share his vision for this exciting ministry to 'at risk' boys growing up in some of the worst parts of our city. We are hoping that this can provide a future partnership with Acts 4 Youth, these boys and the city. Kevin will share some of the many ways in which we and our entire families can get involved helping those in need. Hope to see you all then.

We are again privelaged to house a cold weather shelter here at Chapelgate during Christmas week. Some 20-40 guests will be staying at our facility and we not only want to put a roof over their head, some food in the bellies, but demonstrate the love of Christ in tangible ways to them especially during the Christmas week. Cold Weather Shelter Needs, Dec 22-29, 2008

Set up and breakdown: We need help moving furniture and tables after the second service on Sunday, Dec 21^st to prepare for our guests. This will take around 2 hours. We need help Monday, Dec 29^th at 8am to clean up and return furniture. Also 2 hours.

Evening Shift: We need 2 people every evening from 5:30pm-10:00pm to supervise our guests. You may eat dinner with them, and chat. Many will just want to watch TV. There will be a Grassroots shelter employee present at all times.

Overnight Shift: We need 2 people every night from 10:00pm-7:00am the following morning to be “present” while the guests are asleep. You will be awake 4 hours, and asleep 4 hours, using the cot in the nurse’s room. We prefer one male and one female for this shift. There will be a Grassroots shelter employee present (asleep) at all times.

Food Service: We need 2 people every evening from 5:00pm-8:00pm to assist in the preparation and serving of food. There will be a kitchen trained individual supervising and the meals have already been planned. You are welcome to eat with the guests.

Morning Driver: We need 1 main driver and 1 backup driver every morning to show up at 6:15am (except on Monday the 22) The backup driver is in case we need to drive both vans. Sometimes guests have their own transportation and we only need one van. If you are backup driver, and you are not needed, you will be called or emailed to let you know. The van driver drives the guests to Columbia Mall, to the bus shelter near Sears.

Afternoon Driver: We need 1 main driver and 1 backup driver every afternoon to show up at 4:45pm (except on Monday the 29) The backup driver is in case we need to drive both vans. Sometimes guests have their own transportation and we only need one van. If you are backup driver, and you are not needed, you will be called or emailed to let you know. The van driver drives to Columbia Mall, to the bus shelter near Sears. Guests will have ID cards and are pre screened to get on the van.

Christmas Shifts: The guests will stay all day at Chapelgate on Dec 25^th, as the mall is closed. We need 2 people from 7:00am-12noon to supervise guests, we need 2 people from noon-5:30 to supervise guests, and we need 2 people to prepare and serve Christmas brunch from 10:00am-noon. Snacks, such as chips and cookies, are especially welcome on Christmas, so feel free to bring them. (there are mostly men, they seem to like chips and watching sports on TV)

Laundry: There will be 25 sets of twin sheets to wash on Monday, Dec 29. Two people are needed to bring the sheets to Normandy coin op Laundromat, wash and dry, fold, and then take these sheets over to the next church, which is Christ Memorial Presbyterian (near the Shaker/Seneca exit off of route 29 just south of Broken Land Pkwy) The next church needs the sheets before 5:30pm, but the timing is otherwise up to you.

Help for Dawn Harvey

As I mentioned in class, Dawn Harvey's (member of our church and part of Fusion) parents have recently needed to be moved into an assisted living community. Dawn and Chris are now pressed for time to try to clean out her parents home to get it ready to sell. They could use you and/or your family's help this Saturday (Nov. 15th) with moving stuff out of the house into dumpsters (not anything incredibly heavy, just stuff) They will begin work at 9:00am at her parent's home (8617 Beechnut Ct. in Ellicott City.) and will work through mid afternoon. If you and/or anyone from your family (children are welcome to help) would be able to lend a helping hand for even an hour or two it would be greatly appreciated.

New teaching series starts this week

This Sunday, Fusion will be starting a new teaching series as Won Oh leads us through a study on the book of Habakkuk. Here are few words from Won as to what he hopes to gain from the study...

"Habakkuk is one of the minor prophets of the Bible, but the truths found in this little gem of a book are anything but minor. In this harsh and sinful world we live in, it is hard to see how God is working to redeem us and our world. There may have been a time when you questioned God or His will for you. Some of you may be there right now. These are not the questions of an unbeliever, but a believer seeking to know God more intimately. As we read Habakkuk and his journey to a deeper faith, it is my hope that Hope to see you all this Sunday!this study will also challenge us in what it means to faith faith in God. "

Great time at McKeldin Picnic

Although the air temp was a little chilly for some.........Cary Gavlin's 'Chili' sure helped warm us up. We had a beautiful Fall day and a great time as 75+ adults and children joined us for our first Fusion event. It was so good to see all the children playing together and so many people engaged in good conversation. I talked to a number of people who said this is an event we 'must do again'. I agree. Thanks to all of you who joined us and for those who missed we hope that you will be able to join us for one of our future events.

Great 1st Meeting

This past Sunday, we had our first gathering with close to 50 young families from our Chapelgate Community. It was a great time of connecting with one another and talking about some of the things we all hope to see happen in our midst as our community gels and grows together. Here are just a few of the thoughts shared.

* "I hope this becomes a place like 'Cheers' ". (Everybody knows my name)
* "I want us all to become a 'family' together."
* "Looking forward to finding opportunities to serve together."
* "Hoping I can make and develop new friendships."
* "Would love to see a small group develop that I could be a part of."

This coming Sunday we will meet again. Join us at 9:00 for food and coffee and our meeting time will start around 9:15am.
